March Update
Posted on March 7th, 2009 No commentsThings have been quiet here, as we have more or less completed the official main phase of promoting the book’s release. We’ll no doubt have some events here or there in the future, but it’s not likely to be as much or as often.
Things are also quiet here because they are pretty busy elsewhere. Dad is on the big final push to finish his NEXT book, and I am serving as what’s I’ve called manuscript wrangler — helping him get the appendices and other backmatter put together, assembling the chapters of the book so that everything’s neatly in one format for submission, etc. Lots of fiddly details — but it’s moving forward pretty smoothly.

Adventures In Radio
Posted on February 10th, 2009 No commentsRoger here. I’ve just completed a run of radio interviews in support of the book — about ten of them between 6:40 am and 11:30 am. It was a interesting experience. I was surprised it that left me more ready to talk about the book thaan when I started. There were certainly topics that came up more than once, but it was far from being the same conversation over and over. Just sitting there telling stories from the book made me realize just how good the stories are — and I found that I got better at telling them as the day went along. What really came home to me was just how close things were between the Monitor and the Virginia. Telling that story two or three times really taught me how to tell it. What the story comes down to is this: The Virginia was the most powerful ship afloat, utterly invincible — for about twelve hours. If the Monitor had been delayed by even a few hours, history would have been very different.
